Red crabs migrate!

Recently, tens of millions of red crabs have begun their migration across Christmas Island; just off the coast of Australia. The island is in the Indian Ocean and lies just south of Java, Indonesia. The crabs migrate annually. Leaving their homes in the forest behind, they make their way to the beaches.

The population of seal pups is increasing! Over the last five years, the seal population has increased by 2,823 off the coast of England on Farne Island. It is thanks to thermal cameras that we can track and count the seals.

Rubbish artwork! Every year, volunteers all over the UK meet to collect rubbish from beaches. During the most recent beach clean-up, a whopping 151,422 pieces of litter were collected. Using some of the rubbish collected, people have very cleverly turned it into artwork just like in the picture on the right!

China’s giant pandas are no longer endangered in the wild! The country recently downgraded the giant pandas’ status from ‘endangered’ to ‘vulnerable’. 1,800 giant pandas now live in the wild. Their population has nearly doubled in the last 30 years. This is thanks to conservation efforts to save and expand the pandas’ habitats.
