Maths Homework
Expectations

Reception & Year 1
Expectation: 15 minutes of NumBots a week

NumBots is used to help develop your child’s understanding of maths from an early age, establishing a secure mathematical foundation which they can build upon as they progress through their education. This game helps to develop your child’s ability to add and subtract with fluency by developing efficient mental calculation strategies. Pupils are exposed to a variety of representations and question styles from pseudo-concrete, to pictorial to abstract, an approach also used in school.  Minimal changes are made from one level to the next, slightly shifting what pupils are concentrating on and gradually increasing the level of demand. This ensures that your child fully understands and has grasped the key skills they need to confidently tackle the next challenge.

Your child will have their own individual login for NumBots, this can be found in their reading journal.

Years 2 - 6
Expectation: 15 sessions of TT Rockstars a week

TT Rockstars helps pupils to master the times tables in a fun and engaging way. Through engagement with this programme, your child will have the opportunity to develop their confidence, pace and accuracy when answering multiplication facts up to 12 X 12. As your child moves through the school, a majority of maths topics require a secure knowledge and recall of multiplication facts. Through regular engagement in this carefully sequenced programme, children can practice and consolidate their times tables thus strengthening their confidence and recall.  The programme blends multiplication with division which helps to strengthen the children’s mathematical understanding.

Your child will have their own individual login for TT Rockstars, this can be found in their reading journal.

Years 3 - 6
Expectation: Weekly arithmetic homework

Arithmetic homework will be set on a Friday and is due the following Wednesday. The questions set will require your child to draw on previous learning and thus secure their knowledge and understanding of mathematical concepts which have previously been taught. The arithmetic homework helps to develop the children’s fluency of key concepts helping them to become more confident and efficient mathematicians.

Your child should complete their homework in either a pencil or a black or blue pen.

Please encourage your child to show their workings out where appropriate.
