Visit from Captain Maryla Ingham from the Royal Navy
We were so excited to meet Captain Maryla Ingham today, the first female Captain of a Royal Navy Ship.
Captain Ingham told children about the history of the Royal Navy and the important environmental work that the Ship carries out as well as the important role of defence.
There are many different roles on board the ship and children were inspired by the variety and excitement of the expeditions.
We really enjoyed seeing pictures of the underwater volcanoes discovered by the Ship's sonar equipment as well as finding out how the Ship contributes to scientific research and helps to map the sea bed.
Children also enjoyed the pictures of wildlife in Antarctica such as penguins and Orcas.
Older children asked Captain Ingham questions relating to Shackleton and Endurance that they are studying in class. The whole visit was inspirational !
We would like to thank Captain Maryla Ingham for taking the time to come and visit us here in Kings Hill !
