Music Update

Year 6 have begun to experiment with the programming of midi sounds over the last two weeks. They have been using Band Lab and an external midi keyboard to trigger and record instruments. The children have also begun to develop an understanding of chords and structure. They will eventually be using all of the skills they learnt to create their own composition.

Year 5 have begun to learn some basic chords on the keyboard and we look forward to putting them together to play some simple pop songs next term.

Year 4 have looked at the chords C and Am on the ukulele and have even started to play the song Ho Hey by the Lumineers.

Year 3 have enjoyed learning about traditional Chinese folk music this term. They have explored Chinese New Year, thinking about ancient traditions and stories. Children were introduced to traditional Chinese instruments and the pentatonic scale. Children enjoyed using glockenspiels to play a pentatonic scale and melodies.

Year 2 have enjoyed using glockenspiels to create their own simple melody based on the theme of space while thinking about how they can record what they have created.

Year 1 have continued to explore the theme of the sea within music. Collaboratively each class created their own sea story through music, using a variety of instruments to create texture.
