Bear Cubs Pond Dipping
Bear Cubs were looking at all things “Frogs” last week! So, we thought it was a perfect opportunity to have the first pond dipping session of the year to see what we could discover lurking under the water. The children were very excited and asked so many questions. We used identification sheets to identify each species including Tadpoles, water fleas, mosquito larvae, midge larvae, great diving beetles and their larvae, flat worms, mayfly larvae, to name but a few! Children learned that frogs weren’t the only animals with an interesting lifecycle; many larvae start life in the pond only to turn into flying insects later in the summer or sometimes years later years. Children can look forward to revisiting the pond in a few weeks to see how the tadpoles have grown and changed.
